Paralegal/Legal Assistant
Duties: Manage open estate matters with the goal of closing them as soon as possible, including by maintaining an accurate estate records database and file system, reviewing and summarizing estate documents such as correspondence, receipts, releases, and indemnification agreements, communicating with estate representatives, working with Planned Giving team, and supporting the Director of Corporate Legal Affairs. Assist the Director of Corporate Legal Affairs and other attorneys with other corporate legal matters, including by: Reviewing and drafting contracts, amendments, applications, and correspondence. Coordinating compliance with federal and state lobbying registration and reporting requirements. Assisting in U.S. and international trademark registrations. Analyzing and managing audio, video, and photographic media archiving requests. Reviewing board meeting agendas, resolutions, and minutes for the and its affiliates, and assisting with board meeting administration. Assist with Human Resources and legal compliance, including: Reconciling and submitting biweekly HSA deductions. Organizing, leading and managing staff compliance with trainings related to employment benefits, policies, and anti-harassment. Analyze and prepare reports for federal and state reporting. Assist attorneys with litigation matters as needed, including: Draft correspondence, pleadings, motions, notices, calendar requests, status reports, subpoenas, affidavits, and discovery requests and responses. Summarize depositions and reports. Conduct legal research. Cite-check briefs and assist in the preparation of supporting exhibits. Assist with preparations for meetings, hearings, mediations, and trials. Organize and maintain case files and docket deadlines. Maintain strict confidentiality at all times. Perform any other duties assigned by the Director of Corporate Legal Affairs.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: College degree (preferably in paralegal studies), and 3+ years of paralegal experience or five years of administrative experience in related areas. Proven excellent research and analytical skills. Demonstrated effective written and verbal communication skills. Proven organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work. Self-motivation and the proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs. Knowledge of animal rights issues and commitment to the objectives of the organization. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times.
