Summer Internship The intern will gain invaluable work experience and a firsthand understanding of how the government works. Responsibilities vary, but interns research legislation for the Member and legislative staff, handle constituent correspondence, coordinate tours, and attend hearings and briefings. As a result, interns learn about the legislative process and the many other functions of a congressional office. Interns work with district staff on a variety of projects and are also assigned administrative tasks. Preparing reports, researching specific issues and compiling information to respond to constituent inquiries, assisting with community outreach efforts, handling incoming mail, introductory communications work, media archiving, and performing general office duties. Interns also have the opportunity to gain field experience by accompanying staff to community events, meetings, and tours throughout California’s 45th district.
