Regulatory Licensing Paralegal The candidate will report to the Deputy General Counsel. Will interact with senior managers, vendors, outside law firms and other contacts internal and external to the Company. Assume primary responsibility for preparation of regulatory filings (new filings and renewals) with state agencies and CMS (Medicare). Oversee license/permit renewals at all facilities, using compliance software. Track permits (e.g., food licenses, elevator permits), using compliance software. Maintain files relating to HIPAA-related filings and internal reports. Assist with regulatory due diligence, as needed. Prepare basic contracts between various company entities and third parties; field questions and assist with training initiatives relating to contracts and legal issues. Primary responsibility for updating and maintaining residency agreements and related documents for all communities Field questions from the communities relating to privacy issues (HIPAA compliance), medical record requests, contracts and other legal issues. Develop training tools and conduct inâ€”person trainings from time to time on legal issues. Support Deputy General Counsel in maintaining/updating litigation files. Working with in-house and outside counsel, assist with document production and other discovery matters for active lawsuits and subpoenas. Maintain files for pre-litigation claims. Track and forward to appropriate parties within the Company service of process notices.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Bachelorâ€™s Degree from an accredited college or university. Paralegal Certification; Masterâ€™s in Paralegal Studies a plus. Must have 5 yearsâ€™ paralegal experience, with: litigation experience; and experience working with regulatory agencies (health care a plus). Must have strong project management skills, demonstrated organizational skills, attention to detail, strong oral and written communication skills as well as the ability to work effectively with field-based personnel and clients. Should have strong analytical skills. Must have strong project management skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills required.
