ProfileVeteran Benefits, Youth, and Expungement Law Clerk, Summer 2018 The candidate will assist with filing veterans' benefits claims and drafting correspondence and documents relating to veterans' benefits claims, at the initial and appellate levels. Will assist with filing criminal record expungement petitions and drafting correspondence relating to expungement. Assist with research and representation on legal issues specifically affecting youth experiencing homelessness. Interview clients and maintaining client files. Communicate with clients, US Department of Veterans Affairs, Maryland Department of Human Services, Housing Authority of Baltimore City, Maryland District and Circuit Courts, partner agencies, and pro bono attorneys. Conduct outreach sessions at shelters, youth drop-in centers, soup kitchens, VA medical centers, and government agency offices. Assist attorneys with veterans' rights, youth rights, and expungement law presentations. Should have ability and/or interest in working with individuals with little or no income, experiencing homelessness, and those with mental and/or physical disabilities.
