Assistant Attorney The candidate will prosecute general traffic and criminal cases, and ordinance violations, high and aggravated traffic offenses such as DUI and Aggressive Driving, state misdemeanors such as possession of marijuana less than an ounce and underage persons in possession of alcohol, as well as some civil offenses such as False Alarm violations, on behalf of law enforcement, city agencies, and the general public. Will handle all direct appeals arising from the Atlanta Municipal Court to the Superior Courts of Fulton or DeKalb Counties, the Georgia Court of Appeals, and the Georgia Supreme Court. Will also conduct preliminary hearings to determine probable cause, and is responsible for the development of case management plans, to include screening, investigating and prosecuting assigned cases. Assistant Attorneys are required to report to court, interact with internal and external customers, always mindful to be courteous and respectful, and to prosecute cases on a daily basis, unless otherwise assigned. Prosecutors must work with defense attorneys in advance of trial to conduct pre-trial conferences and negotiations. JD degree is required. Must be a member of the Georgia Bar Association. Should preferably have 1-3 years of legal experience. Georgia license to practice law is required.
