Intellectual Property - General
Intellectual Property Legal Assistant/Paralegal Responsibilities: Supporting the client group on global patent management, counseling, and enforcement; Assisting attorneys with preparation, prosecution, and filing of patent applications; Prepare all necessary documents for U.S. and international patent filing and prosecution, including preparation of PTO forms, document shells, etc; Electronically file patent documents in the USPTO, including utility and design patent applications, PCT applications, and Office Action responses of all types; Manage attorney dockets in a docketing system and conferring with attorneys regarding file status to ensure all deadlines are met in a timely manner; Professionally communicate with clients, foreign associates, and the USPTO to ensure that the applications and subsequent prosecution responses are filed correctly and on time; Interface with inventors, and provide status of their inventions and patent applications based on business recommendations; Coordinate Intellectual Property Committee meetings including agenda and minute preparation, action item follow-up, and database maintenance; and Technology Agreement Support.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and/or ABA-approved paralegal certification preferred. Proficiency with docket management system and strong online searching and research skills; Knowledge and familiarity with laws and procedures pertaining to patents; Demonstrated work experience as a paralegal handling a full range of issues related to an international patent portfolio in a law firm, corporate law department or government agency; Ability to work independently, as well as closely with business clients, outside counsel and other team members; Ability to organize, prioritize and manage to effectively work on multiple projects; Strong written and verbal communication skills; Ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment, while applying attention to detail; and Demonstrated good judgment, discretion, diligence, dependability and a strong work ethic.
