Intellectual Property Paralegal Responsibilities: Coordinates with global employees, outside counsel, and foreign agents in support of all aspects of patent portfolio maintenance, including: Managing annuity payments (e.g., prepare annuity spreadsheets for portfolio review, communicate hold/drop instructions to annuity provider, review monthly invoices and settlement/credit notes), and Maintaining data integrity and accuracy of company IP records in docketing software. Coordinates with global employees, outside counsel, and foreign agents in support of all aspects of trademark prosecution and maintenance, including: Assisting with trademark clearance process by performing knockout searches for proposed new trademarks, Working with outside counsel to search and review proposed new trademarks, and Collaborating with product and marketing managers for assistance with trademark requirements (e.g. specimens, first use dates). Coordinates with global employees, outside counsel, and foreign agents in support of all aspects of intellectual property litigation and risk management, including: Tracking and coordinating freedom-to-operate review with the managing in-house attorney(s) (including, and Assisting outside counsel with requests regarding document collection/production or meetings with global employees. Responsible for other activities in support of the global intellectual property function, including: Providing support to Waters inventors (e.g. generating portfolio reports, invention status updates), Reviewing invoices from outside counsel for accuracy and compliance with specified guidelines; Working with accounts payable to ensure payment of invoices from outside counsel, Ensuring docketing software contains up-to-date invoice information, Working with payroll to ensure payments are processed and made, and Maintaining files for original documents (e.g. disclosure forms, formal papers and US and foreign letters patents).Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: 3+ years of related work experience within both law firm and in-house patent departments. Strong analytical and communication skills, with an emphasis on attention to details and deadlines. Basic working knowledge of Waters products and technology, or interest in gaining such knowledge. Confidence, discretion, independent judgment, interpersonal awareness, and ability to impact and influence others without direct authority. Ability to identify issues and to recommend solutions. Ability to work efficiently and independently, meet demanding deadlines in a fast-paced environment, prioritize workflow and adjust to changing priorities. Skilled with Skilled with Word, Excel, Powerpoint, document management systems (e.g., iManage DeskSite), intellectual property docketing software (e.g. Lecorpio), and annuity management software (CPi).
