Deputy Director for Administrative Advocacy Duties: Responsible for project management and the day-to-day execution of NILC’s Administrative Advocacy program, a multi-strategy, multi-agency effort to achieve pro-immigrant policy change across the federal government. Support the Director of Federal Advocacy with engagement of key partners in advancement of collective administrative priorities. This includes assisting the Director of Federal Advocacy in management and facilitation of coordination and advocacy tables of external partners. Develop and manage relationships with senior administration staff and other officials as well as with external partners as appropriate. Represent NILC in agency and other administration meetings, key coalitions and coordinated federal advocacy initiatives. Consult with agency officials, and other external stakeholders, regarding NILC’s priority policy issues. Oversee execution of advocacy strategies to achieve NILC’s administrative policy proposals, in coordination with the Director of Federal Advocacy and the Director of Policy & Advocacy. This includes soliciting input from senior leadership and providing guidance to staff on strategies to achieve administrative policy goals that impact low-income immigrants, supervising research and analysis of proposed agency actions, and presenting or preparing others to present proposals before policymaking bodies. Review and advise policy and advocacy staff on the development of policy memoranda, reports, briefings, papers and letters, as well as policy guidance, memoranda, and regulatory language. As appropriate, provide support to other staff on issues of subject matter expertise. Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains staff. Oversees the daily workflow of the Administrative Advocacy team. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations. Handles discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy. Generally, supervises between 2 and 4 policy analysts, attorneys, advocates and associates at the intersection of immigration law and health, economic supports, economic justice and workers’ rights.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: JD Degree or advanced policy degree, or significant and relevant experience working in a government agency and/or on Capitol Hill. 8+ years of progressive experience in policy advocacy. Experience working with diverse audiences, including elected officials, community leaders, coalition partners, and managing conflict. Leadership, supervisory and management experience. Experience developing strong team dynamics with internal staff and external partners across the country through remote access/technology Substantive and practical knowledge of immigration law. Demonstrated commitment to intersectional social justice work, mission, priorities and culture. Values aligned with the mission of defending and advancing the rights of immigrants with low income. A strong commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion for all.Collaborative, proactive, and flexible working style with a strong service mentality. Excellent verbal and written communication skills: ability to create and update substantive written materials. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Displays sound judgment in decision making. Excellent time management skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other technology. Demonstrate a commitment to work collaboratively and respectfully toward resolving obstacles and/or conflicts.
