Qualification and Experience
The candidate will be a 2L or 3L law student (during the 2021-22 school year). Knowledge of: The principles of civil and criminal law and the methods and practices of pleading; judicial procedures and rules of evidence; legal research methods and how to prepare briefs and opinions. Ability to: Analyze and apply legal principles, facts, evidence and precedents to legal problems; present statements of law, fact and arguments clearly and logically in written and oral form; establish and maintain harmonious and cooperative relationships with department staff members, other City employees, and the public; perform legal research and prepare legal opinions; evaluate complaints and obtain information through personal interviews. A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills, and abilities outlined above is the completion of the first year of an accredited law school program, or successful completion of the California First Year Law Students Examination and current enrollment in a law school.
Schedule: 20 hours/ week during the summer and 12-15 hours/week throughout the school year).
Available to work beginning in June 2021
