ProfileAttorney, Immigration Duties: Supporting litigation efforts. Case development, including on-site interviews and investigations and analysis of potential legal claims. Legal research and analysis. Collaborating with other NCYL staff and co-counsel. Litigation, and post-litigation enforcement of judgments/settlements, including drafting complaints, motions, memoranda, and briefs; and engaging in discovery. Drafting resources for judges, child welfare and juvenile justice professionals on a range of issues impacting immigrant children. Training juvenile court judges and other related professionals whose decisions regularly impact immigrant children. Tracking legislative and policy changes impacting immigrant children. Collaborating with immigrant childrenâ€™s advocates throughout the country on litigation and policy efforts. Supporting fundraising efforts.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree; admitted to practice law in California or willing to seek admission. Excellent analytic and writing skills. Ability to manage multiple projects. Strong interpersonal skills. Outstanding oral communication skills. Knowledge of the challenges facing vulnerable immigrant children. Creative problem solving and ability to stay focused on the big-picture. Commitment to overarching goals and objectives. Ability and willingness to travel. Skills and capacities associated with 2+ yearsâ€™ experience at a public interest law firm or government agency OR approximately three yearsâ€™ experience at a law firm with significant pro bono experience.. Desired Qualifications: Significant substantive knowledge of immigration law. Direct experience with, or have been impacted by, the justice system; Fluency in oral and written Spanish.
