Profile

Personnel Security Specialist Duties: The candidate will independently review background investigations and make decisions regarding suitability for federal employment, fitness for performance under contract with the federal government, or eligibility for a security clearance. Will interpret and apply suitability factors and security adjudicative guidelines when making adjudicative decisions or adverse action recommendations for suitability, fitness, and security clearance eligibility. Review background investigations/documents to ensure all required information is provided and request missing information when needed. Ensure all required information is present in background investigations for the appropriate adjudicative decision. Writes letters of interrogatories, case summaries, eligibility notifications, and notices of adverse actions. Contact or issue written correspondence with individuals, outside entities or other government agencies for additional information. Manage workflow to ensure timely processing of cases to ensure compliance with government performance and accountability requirements. Keep team lead or management abreast of recurring problems or systemic deficiencies.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications:
For GS-09: The candidate must have 1 year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to the GS-07 level in the federal government, that equipped with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Should have experience performing the following duties: reviewing and evaluating reports of investigations or other data to determine if individuals meet security standards; determining eligibility for access to classified or sensitive information in the presence of minor derogatory information.
OR
May substitute a Master's degree or 2 full years of graduate education in a qualifying field or a J.D or LL.B. degree for experience required at the GS-09 grade level. Such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.

For GS-11: The candidate must have 1 year of specialized experience, which is equivalent to the GS-09 level in the federal government, that equipped with the skills needed to successfully perform the duties of the position. Should have experience performing the following duties: reviewing and evaluating reports of investigations and other data to determine if individuals meet security standards; determining the adequacy and completeness of moderately complex investigations; monitoring the number of security clearances; evaluating the sensitivity classification of positions; and/or helping to develop personnel security guidelines.
OR
May substitute a doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent degree) or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in any field, or LL.M. if related for experience at the GS-11 grade level or such education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position.
