Legal Assistant The candidate responsibilities will include preparation / processing of petitions, motions, orders and other legal documents related to the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) also known as Child Protective Services (CPS) within the Williamson County Attorney's Office. Provides confidential high-level support to the TDFPS, Civil and Victim Services Divisions of the County Attorney's Office. Cross-trained to all other Legal Assistant duties within the TDFPS, Civil and Victim Services Divisions and provide back-up duties and responsibilities as needed. Prepares petitions, motions, orders and other legal documents. Requests hearing dates, mediation dates and other settings. Prepares and sends out notice of Court hearing and arranges mediations. Researches case information. Files, makes copies and mail notices, prepares subpoenas, bench warrants and legal documents. Arranges and coordinates witnesses and notarizes legal documents. Attends court to assist Assistant County Attorneys as needed. Assists with the preparation of discovery, subpoenas, briefs and other time sensitive legal documents. Assists with records management and filing, including e-filing and use of the County's electronic case management system. Maintains calendar, case files and dockets. Assimilates legal discovery. Works closely with outside agencies including TDFPS, Respondents and their attorneys, CASA, The Office of the Attorney General, as well as inter-office departments such as the criminal divisions of the County and District Attorney's office, Clerks' offices, court staff and other office staff. Provides back up duties and responsibilities as needed for all other Legal Assistants in within the TDFPS, Civil and Victim Services Divisions. Serves as liaison between the County Attorney's Office and Elected Officials, department heads and representatives of other governmental entities, as well as members of the general public. Functions as a resource for outside agencies which have business with the Williamson County Attorney's Office. Exhibits and ensures outstanding customer service is provided at all times. Responds to incoming telephone calls, takes messages and routes to appropriate person. Maintains knowledge of the Texas Family Code. Readily complies with departmental and county-wide policies and procedures. Performs other duties and related special projects as assigned.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have High school diploma or equivalent. Should have ability to work effectively with co-workers, employees and supervisors in a pleasant, professional manner. Associates degree in Legal Secretarial Science, Paralegal Studies, Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration or a directly related field and 2+ years of advanced secretarial experience, including 1+ year as a Legal Secretary is preferred. Strong organizational skills and proven ability to maintain accurate and detailed records is required. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills is needed. Proven knowledge and experience with system software such as Oracle, Microsoft Office, fax and copy machines is must. Ability to type and enter data with appropriate speed and efficiency is essential. Experience working in a large and fast paced legal environment with previous public sector employment is desired. Bilingual (Spanish) is a plus. Data entry efficiency at a minimum of 55 wpm is helpful. Prior experience as a legal assistant; and legal document preparation is an asset.
