Attorney Duties: Represents indigent clients when appointed by the court and prepares cases for defense including, presenting such cases in all phases of court proceedings. Openings include positions in trial courts and early dispositions courts (Regional Court Centers, Early Disposition Courts). Appears in court, represents clients at scheduled hearings and trials, presents oral arguments as appropriate in support of clientsâ€™ legal interests. Researches facts and analyzes legal issues using both computerized and printed legal research tools. Composes motions, briefs, correspondence, and other legal documents. Prepares cases for trial by interviewing witnesses, visiting crime scenes, and other case-related locations. Reviews evidence on- and off-site. Discusses and presents analyses of legal issues to clients, court personnel, and related individuals. Communicates in person and by phone with clients, opposing counsel, co-workers, supervisors, and others. Travels to courts, jails, detention centers, and correctional facilities to effectively represent clients and attends Continuing Legal Education seminars.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: JD Degree or Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an American Bar Association (ABA) approved law school.
Specialized training, certifications, and/or other special requirements: Must be admitted to practice law and be in good standing with the State Bar of Arizona at time of application.
Applications will be accepted from candidates who have passed the Arizona Bar examination, or are transferring UBE scores, and are awaiting admission to the bar, but such candidates cannot be hired until admitted.
Knowledge of: The theories, principles, and practices of the legal profession. Ability to: Deal with issues and problems involving careful interpretation, analysis, and diagnosis of legal precedents, implications, and ramifications. Preferred education and/or experience: Experience in criminal law (defense, prosecution, judicial).
