Paralegal Supervisor
Responsibilities: Oversees work of assigned Paralegals who are members of the Minimum Standards Team, including assigning new work, allocating work, and reviewing work before it is provided to other departments of the Fund and/or the bargaining parties and their attorneys. Communicates with and assists Manager of Paralegals to implement Minimum Standards processes and prepare reports. Communicates with the General Counsel and Senior Legal Counsel on unique requests that require attorneys’ approval or recommendation. Prepares and conducts Performance Evaluations. Oversees process of contract review for Minimum Standards Compliance for assigned accounts, and review and acceptance of the Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA’s). Drafts and reviews unique provisions as requested by bargaining parties, after consultation with Manager of Paralegals or Attorneys. Reviews Contract Extracts and sends to the bargaining parties and to their attorneys as confirmation of the Fund’s understanding of their provisions and how they will be applied. Supervises preparation of Contract Addenda for CBAs that do not comply with the Minimum Standards or other Fund rules for assigned accounts. Collaborates with Union Locals to assist them in bringing new Employers into different Fund Plans, prepares or reviews new Employers’ Agreements and works with the Fund’s departments to achieve a smooth transition into the Plans. Conducts conference calls with the bargaining parties and/or their attorneys to respond to questions, explains Fund rules and speeds up the process of receiving and accepting agreements. Collaborates with various Fund Departments to meet their requirements and ensure the CBA provisions of assigned accounts are clear and can be administered. Assists in preparation of reports as required by Fund attorneys and Manager of Paralegals related to different issues. Conducts daily meetings with Minimum Standards Team members to answer questions and make decisions, in consultation with Manager of Paralegals and Attorneys on how to move forward in a large variety of situations. Assists in training of new members of the Minimum Standards Team: Paralegals or Legal Assistants. Updates information systems containing contract data and determines when it requires adjustments. Prepares variances for Contracts Committees review. Assists Manager of Paralegals with Monitoring Reports for the Board of Trustees. Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of responsibilities and requirements of the job.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree preferred or equivalent work experience. Certification in Paralegal studies or equivalent work experience. 3-5 years of direct experience minimum in a law firm or legal department. 2-3 years of supervisor experience preferred. Working knowledge and experience in resolving contract disputes through arbitration and/or mediation preferred. Working knowledge and experience in labor relations contract review; drafting and interpretation preferred.
