Staff Attorney Candidate will work with one or more local non-profit community development corporations and neighborhood associations on targeted inner-city community improvement initiatives. Will focus heavily on real estate transactions and civil land-use litigation with the target outcome being blight remediation and community re-investment. Responsibilities will also include assisting with the coordination of volunteer attorney services in seven low-income neighborhoods, each one ‘adopted’ by a law firm furnishing the services.
Qualification and Experience
Candidate must have the following: a Missouri law license (or the ability to obtain a Missouri license soon after hire), sensitivity to diverse communities, ability to work independently, excellent judgment, strong reasoning and writing abilities, good organizational habits, highly motivated, and the ability to learn quickly. Preferred credentials include: strong academic achievements (including moot court, law review, law journal, or practical clinical experience), litigation experience, background in community development, and commitment to public interest law. Second language proficiency in a language commonly spoken by Aid’s clients or potential clients, particularly Spanish, but also Arabic, Vietnamese, Somali or Dinka will be viewed favorably in the hiring decision.
