Child Support Magistrate The candidate serves at the pleasure of the judges of the judicial district and is supervised by the Child Support Magistrate Manager. Work assignments are carried out with a substantial degree of discretion and independent judgment within the framework of state laws and rules of procedure applicable to the expedited child support process. Prepare for and conduct child support hearings; review requests for continuances; review requests for discovery. Preside over child support hearings in a fair, impartial and expeditious manner, maintain decorum in the hearing room, ensure that proceedings are properly recorded, and develop a complete and accurate record. Listen to and evaluate evidence of witnesses; listen to presentation of case; rule on admissibility of evidence and methods of conducting testimony. Issue an appropriate order from each hearing in a timely fashion. Review and either sign (approve) or reject uncontested orders. Prepare, sign and file orders based on evidence and findings within the 30 days allowed by court rule. Graduation from an accredited law school is essential. Must be currently licensed to practice law in the state of MN (provide license number). Must be a lawyer in good standing. Must have 7+ years of legal experience as a practicing lawyer involving the presentation of evidence and examination of witnesses before administrative bodies or courts of law. Prefer candidates with substantial, demonstrable child support and/or family law experience. Application deadline: 06/14/18.
