IP Attorney Responsibilities: Protecting, and commercializing intellectual property arising from the company’s R&D. Assessing and negotiating agreements to acquire or license third party technology. Negotiating intellectual property provisions in connection with customer agreements and other commercial agreements. Managing a patent portfolio, together with outside counsel. Implementing internal processes, procedures, and training centered on intellectual property identification and protection. Draft, review, interpret, and negotiate intellectual property provisions of manufacturing, process development, purchase, supply, license, non-disclosure, and master service agreements. Negotiate and support other technology transactions such as commercial licenses, non-disclosure agreements, material transfer agreements, testing agreements and the like. Coordinate the preparation and prosecution of patent applications as well as the commissioning of IP landscape, patentability, freedom to operate, and other IP reports. Provide support to outside counsel and/or participate in the representation of created or acquired intellectual property before the USPTO and/or various courts or tribunals. May also provide legal support for a variety of legal documents including but not limited to vendor/service agreements, waivers, consents, etc.
Qualification and ExperienceQualifications: Must possess J.D. with eligibility for admission to the Texas Bar. Possession of a Patent Bar License is strongly preferred; eligibility to sit for the Patent Bar Examination is required. Should have 6-10 years of applicable IP law practice experience. Experience in counseling, drafting and IP-related agreements. Private equity experience is preferred. Exceptional analytical skills with ability to clearly articulate ideas and develop stakeholder relationships. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage several simultaneous projects under deadlines. Proficient in related practice areas such as technology and emerging companies, antitrust, trade regulation and competition. Ability to engage proactively as an advisor to the business and collaboratively work with other areas in the business.
