Paralegal Specialist, GS 9 Duties: Perform tasks related to the office administration and management of a legal office, as assigned; interview potential clients in order to determine their eligibility for victims' legal counsel services, identify conflicts of interest, and specific needs, as requested; draft documentation and provide the victims' legal counsel with assistance with any client/victim visits, to include intake screening, conflicts checks, and scheduling appointments; assist with proper management and tracking of client/victim case information; track all legal services provided by the region and be able to accurately respond to requests for information regarding services provided and service statistics, weekly, and additionally as required; prepare legal documentation as assigned, including motions and responses to motions in accordance with applicable laws and rules of court; ensure confidentiality is maintained when dealing with any and all matters involving client/victim matters within VLCO; assist with uninterrupted services to clients/victims under circumstances of attorney and/or enlisted support staff transfers, reassignments, based upon military orders or other types of transfers. Provide continuity as the permanent staff resource whose duty it is to keep current with existing state and federal legal practices and procedures to ensure compliance with applicable legal requirements; perform legal research for individual cases, including: analyzing applicable statutes, regulations, rules and procedures, legal encyclopedias, periodicals, and case law, and drafting memoranda of law concerning such research, as assigned; plan, organize, and make presentations to groups concerning the services offered by the VLCO, as requested; maintain current legal knowledge through annual continuing legal education, such as seminars and online training; and perform other duties as they relate to the VLCO mission.
Qualification and Experience
Qualifications: Must demonstrate 1+ year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing procedural and legal guidance on regulations, laws, and precedents AND conducting legal research to prepare summary report of findings.
