The candidate will develop online resources and provide direct support and training for defense lawyers in a variety of practice settings throughout the US, with much of the work involving projects to aid in preventing and remedying wrongful convictions, with an emphasis on flawed forensic evidence. Will develop and maintain resources to provide assistance in all substantive and procedural aspects of criminal defense practice, expanding Association's existing online resources, with an emphasis on assisting lawyers to identify and litigate potential cases of wrongful conviction based on unreliable forensic evidence. Work with Senior Resource Counsel on Association's collaborations with innocence efforts, prosecutorial organizations and law enforcement to develop training and strategies that enhance efforts to prevent and remedy wrongful convictions. Communicate with innocence efforts to determine their greatest training, technical assistance, and funding needs, including conducting site visits to those programs if appropriate. Provide targeted resources, training and support to lawyers who handle post-conviction innocence claims. Work with Senior Resource Counsel, in collaboration with Association's education department, to develop, organize and execute training programs. Respond to direct requests for assistance, information and materials from Association members, other organizations, and the public. Assist in developing and executing collaborative projects with defense, prosecution, and law enforcement entities to enhance efforts to prevent and correct wrongful convictions. Work with Senior Resource Counsel in tracking developments related to forensic science and gathering/developing materials to challenge unreliable forensic evidence. Collaborate with Association's technology team to improve the features and content of Association's online Resource Center, including the brief and motions bank. Assist in updating and expanding Association's online Experts Database. Expand an online toolbox of practical legal resources, including briefs, motions and decisions relevant to lawyers handling post-conviction innocence claims. A J.D. degree and criminal defense litigation or post-conviction/appellate work experience are required. Should have a demonstrated interest in and commitment to criminal defense issues.
