Associate Product Counsel, Learning and Education Duties: Work on the most exciting legal issues as disruptive technological innovations require creative and proactive legal guidance. Part of a whip-smart group of in-house lawyers and the projects and cases take on the challenge to think big and differently. Ready to partner in initiatives that influence all aspects of the business and work with firm people from all over the company. As an integrated part of the team, proactively assess legal risks and advise on products that will not only move information into the 21st century but move information law forward as well. Associate Product Counsel working on some of the firm’s educational efforts. Responsible for a mixed portfolio of work, but the primary role will be to advise the Learning and Education team that is dedicated to transforming teaching and learning at scale. Work closely with Product Managers and Engineers dedicated to the same task. Provide solution-oriented legal advice to teams from Engineering, Science, Product Management, and Business Development from the initial stages of product development to launch and beyond. Develop and maintain legal resources that are required for products, such as terms of service, privacy notices, and other disclosures. Review and help structure agreements with potential partners in compliance with applicable law. Provide advice, legal direction, and training on the United States and international laws and regulations related to privacy, competition, and copyright, among others.
Qualification and Experience
Required Qualifications: JD or equivalent degree. Admitted to the Bar and in good standing or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status) in the state in which the position is located. Have 3 years of experience with attorney-level work. Desired Qualifications: Experience in children’s privacy law (e.g., Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, Family Educational Rights, and Privacy Act, and General Data Protection Regulation. Experience working in education technology or education organizations. Experience in Machine Learning or related domains. Ability to be flexible in a fast-paced environment with limited direction, balance competing priorities, and manage several time-sensitive projects at once. Excellent communication and organizational skills, and ability to comfortably interface with all levels of management and to communicate cross-functionally in a structured and clear manner to influence outcomes. Excellent judgment on privacy and regulatory matters.
