Assistant General Counsel
The candidate will be part of an outstanding legal team supporting Medical Group. Reporting to the VP, Associate General Counsel, provide guidance and strategic counsel on state and federal fraud and abuse issues (including the Stark law, Anti-Kickback Statute, and False Claims Act). Should also be well versed in traditional Medicare and Medicare Advantage laws and regulations as they apply to health care provider organizations. Will be required to develop and foster relationships across the organization and provide legal support in a dynamic, fast paced environment. Manage the senior regulatory counsel position. Provide valuable advice and counsel within the context of the broader business and enterprise level objectives. Help achieve thoughtful, successful and timely results for the business. Supporting and working collaboratively with the national and regional leadership teams. Work with clients to proactively identify risks and ensure appropriate risk mitigation strategies are in place. Develop processes, policies and procedures, and amending existing written policies and procedures.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have Law degree with strong academic credentials. Must be, or eligible to be, licensed in good standing to practice law within Colorado (i.e., eligible for single-client status). J.D. from accredited law school required. Must be admitted to a state bar and eligible for single-client admission in Colorado. Prior experience in a law firm or in-house legal department is required; 10 years ideally, but will consider more or less experience depending on other factors. Should have 10 years of significant experience in all aspects of health care regulation including federal and state fraud, waste and abuse laws, contracting, regulatory diligence associated with healthcare transactions, Medicare and Medicaid requirements and reimbursement, and familiarity with Privacy and Security. Regulatory or compliance experience required, preferably in-house with health plans, integrated systems or health care providers or in private practice setting. Must have demonstrated business acumen, including the ability to see the "big picture" as well as the relationship of very detailed and specific legal and business issues. Experience in positively and successfully managing relationships with a high energy, diverse group of stakeholders across highly matrixed organizational lines. A thoughtful, articulate and effective communicator who can distill and articulate the important aspects of contracting issues to a wide audience of participants is needed. Must uderstand and be able to translate into “plain English” the legal ramifications of varied legal issues and clearly and succinctly articulate the risks.
