ProfileParalegal, Litigation The candidate will be responsible for a wide range of duties and assignments in support of the Enterprise Litigation team within the Legal Department. Will provide direct legal support for multiple litigation attorneys and assist other litigation attorneys and paralegals with projects as required. Works alongside and assists attorneys during all phases of the litigation process, from the initiation of a case through discovery, trial, and appeal. Independently responds to subpoenas, tax levies, garnishments, and other legal processes in accordance with applicable law and company procedures. Coordinates responses to civil discovery served on the company, including managing collection efforts of potentially responsive documents maintained by Lincoln business areas in electronic and paper format. Manages the legal hold process, including drafting appropriate correspondence, identifying key players, and interacting with document custodians and business unit managers to ensure company compliance with litigation and pre-litigation hold orders. Composes and responds to correspondence, including electronic mail, engaging manager as necessary. Delivers work independently and in a timely manner. Manages and coordinates distribution of sensitive, confidential information. Supports and promotes departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility. Works overtime as needed. Applies expanded knowledge obtained from the role in increasingly more complex situations and continues to seek and acquire increased knowledge to apply in role. Researches, retrieves, organizes, and manages company records in accordance with the area’s procedures manual. Uses strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate effectively and professionally with both internal and external stakeholders. Prepares monthly team metrics and other relevant spreadsheets as needed. Drafts, edits, and proofreads documents, correspondence, and presentations. Assists with the implementation of the Company’s Records and Document Retention Program. Develops a deep knowledge of legal department electronic applications, including TeamConnect and Interwoven, including reporting functionality. Makes a positive contribution as demonstrated by recommending improvements, implementing and documenting effective processes and procedures, and displaying a positive and collaborative attitude. Assists with evidence and fact gathering for litigation matters. Complies with all company, departmental, and site policies and procedures. Remains current in professional and industry trends. Carries out duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines. Complies with all company and site policies and procedures. Performs other duties as required.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have High School diploma or GED or minimum Associate’s Degree. Undergraduate degree is Preferred. Must have 3-5 years of civil litigation paralegal experience. Experience with class action litigation is Preferred. Paralegal Certificate is preferred. North Carolina Certified Paralegal is preferred. Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills is required. Strong active listening skills is required. Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), including creating PowerPoint presentations using prescribed templates, and ability to manipulate Excel workbooks by sorting, filtering, using formulas, and using other basic functionality is required. High level of competence using technology is required. Familiarity with and ability to navigate internal programs, applications, and mainframe systems that house data relevant to Lincoln products is required.
