Staff Assistant - GS 7 – 9 The candidate in this administrative position, will become a key member of a team of homeland security professionals in providing vital administrative, research, analysis and monitoring services. Typical duties will include: Assisting senior leaders by assessing travel plans and creating long term calendars; Developing, devising, and analyzing internal administrative policies, procedures, and management processes; Developing and administering plans for senior leader public appearances to include coordinating transportation and speech preparation; Conducting research on a variety of documents to determine and recommend solutions; Serving as the administrative liaison for the office establishing and monitoring deadlines.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have following qualifications:
GS-07: Must possess 1 year of specialized experience that included coordinating administrative activities and ensuring that deadlines are met; coordinating the assembly of briefing materials; answering factual questions from the organization's clients concerning its programs; and problem solving.
GS-09: Must possess 1 year of specialized experience that included ensuring that priorities and deadlines are met on administrative programs and/or projects; establishing and monitoring deadlines; monitoring and obligating budget expenditures; evaluating supply needs and managing equipment service procurement actions; and coordinating administrative and technical correspondence.
Substitution Of Education For Experience:
GS-07: Successful completion of one year of full-time graduate education from an accredited college or university may substitute for the experience required at this level. This education must demonstrate the skills necessary to do this job.
OR
GS-07: Superior Academic Achievement (SAA) may also substitute for the experience required at this level. SAA is defined as a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, having a class standing in the upper third of a graduating class or major subdivision, or membership in a national scholastic honor society. GS-09: A Master's degree, two full years of graduate education, a J.D. or an LL.B. degree from an accredited college or university may substitute for experience required at this level.
Should have knowledge of substantive programs of the office, priorities, policies, and goals. Must have ability to independently research, coordinate, and develop reports and responses to completion. Should have ability to analyze, review, and evaluate procedures. Must have demonstrated experience in using various techniques, methods, and procedures for analyzing projects and programs. Should have ability to prepare written reports based on analysis and research of data.
