Vice President, Business and Legal Affairs â€“ Content Acquisitions The candidate will be providing legal counsel throughout the ecosystem of content acquisition, SVOD distribution and IP protection across multiple domestic and international ecosystems. Negotiate, draft, interpret, administer and manage studio and original series acquisition licenses for use on all firm premium video product, including all 17 firm, firm ENCORE, and PLEX-branded linear channels and associated on demand and TV everywhere offerings, and the firm direct-to-consumer Internet application. Negotiate, draft, interpret, administer and manage affiliate SVOD distribution licenses for LIONSGATE and firm premium video product via all distribution platforms, including traditional (cable, satellite and telco), broadband, wireless, and all other forms of new media platforms. Supervise company-wide trademark portfolio, including trademark searches/clearances, licensing, and domain name acquisitions. Supervise firm content rights management system. Supervise anti-piracy process for all company owned and licensed content for all forms of distribution (digital, DVD, merchandise). Provide legal and strategic support and guidance in connection with so-called soft IP litigation and dispute resolution matters. Manage outside counsel, as appropriate. Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have Juris Doctor degree. Should have 5 yearsâ€™ experience in a major, reputable law firm focused on IP/transactional and trademark practice areas. 7 yearsâ€™ experience providing copyright- and trademark-related legal counsel for television networks, studios and/or media distribution companies in the United States is required. Superior drafting skills is needed. Expert understanding of various distribution architectures and the applicable rights distinctions, including IP-delivery platforms is must. Mastery of trademark and copyright laws and licensing is essential. Experience directing, training and developing support staff is required.
