ProfileAttorney III The candidate will be reporting to the Director, Litigation, Attorney III's provide expert legal advice representing the firm in legal actions in state and federal courts. Will handle assigned cases including: file review and analysis, client and witness preparation and interviews, site investigations, pleading analysis and preparation, motion practice, oral and written discovery, expert selection, and trial. Report to the General Counsel and Law Department leadership on case status including strategy, risk assessment, conduct and acquisition of discovery, discovery compliance, motion practice, case investigation, expert retention, and trial readiness. Manage case deadlines and compliance with court orders. Prepare for and attend all court hearings, depositions, meetings, conferences, and other required events for assigned cases. Provide coverage for any of the above on behalf of other Law Department attorneys as required. Provide regular guidance, assistance and mentoring to less experienced attorneys including: case investigation and preparation, deposition practice, drafting of pleadings, motions and correspondence, and courtroom assistance including: contested motions, depositions, client and witness interviews, and trial. Supervise paralegal and secretarial staff on projects. Participate in administrative functions including: interviewing and analyzing prospective hires, participating in continuing legal education, preparing advisory memorandums and opinions, and performing other duties as required by the Law Department leadership. Perform other related duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have a Juris Doctorate degree. Should have 7+years of experience as a practicing attorney including: experience handling at least one law division jury trial to verdict as first chair and at least two law division jury trials as second chair. Must have extensive experience with taking and presenting witnesses at depositions including retained expert witnesses. Should have substantial experience with preparation and oral argument of contested motions. Some experience in supervising support staff and law firms on projects is required. Must have considerable knowledge of the legal system and the principles and practices of applicable areas of the law. Should have considerable knowledge of federal and state legislation and applicable local laws and regulations. Must have considerable knowledge of courtroom procedures and legal terminology. Considerable knowledge of legal research methods, techniques, and resources is required.
