ProfileSupervising Attorney The candidate will help lead an exciting new project to create and implement best practices in ending and preventing homelessness. Will lead a team of attorneys and paralegals providing clients who are homeless or at risk of homelessness with a broad range of legal assistance that removes barriers to getting and staying housed. Directly supervise the work of attorneys and paralegals who represent clients in multiple areas of poverty law. Mentor team members, establish systems to organize the team's work-flow, and provide substantive legal supervision over the team's legal work. Also have responsibilities related to managing the grant including tracking progress towards grant deliverables, drafting reports, and representing the project in outside meetings with funder and partner agencies. Collaborate with the Directing Attorney of the project and other team members in identifying best practices to end and prevent homelessness using all available legal tools and partnership with homeless services case managers. Work with the leadership of partner legal services organizations to ensure the identification and spread of best practices and the provision of consistent services throughout the County. Must have 5+ years of experience representing clients in a large volume and broad variety of legal matters. Past experience supervising and mentoring attorneys in multiple areas of poverty law is required. Membership in the California Bar or another State Bar is required. Should have an understanding of the legal barriers confronting people experiencing homelessness and appreciation for the vital role social workers and other non-lawyers play in addressing their needs.
