Special Investigator The candidate will report to the Senior Advisor to the Inspector General. Will be responsible for conducting highly confidential and sensitive investigations relating to Port Authority employees, or other individuals or organizations, including investigations brought pursuant to the Port Authority’s Whistleblower Policy. Conduct highly confidential and sensitive investigations. Demonstrate good judgment and expertise in the supervision, planning, conducting and disposing of cases. Effectively utilize appropriate investigative techniques and resources, including thorough review of documents correspondence and records. Perform assignments in compliance with laws, governmental regulations, rules and codes. Supervise consultants who serve as Integrity Monitors on large scale construction projects. Communicate with Integrity Monitor staff and agency project personnel. Prepare meeting agenda timely and accurately with respect to the meeting objectives. Cover all relevant areas of importance and interest. Demonstrate professional bearing and courtesy in dealing with all parties involved. Interact with Port Authority managers, project executives, project staff, engineering staff, etc. Prepare reports and maintains records relating to investigations and other assignments. Conduct legal research. Perform special assignments. Communicate and coordinate with federal and state oversite and law enforcement and prosecutorial agencies. Should have a law degree from an accredited law school. Must have 4+ years of full time legal experience, preferably as either a prosecutor or a government counsel handling investigative matters. Should preferably have demonstrable legal research and writing skills. Should have knowledge of federal and state (either New York or New Jersey) criminal law. Must have experience conducting investigations, including the review and analysis of records, conducting interviews, and data base research. Experience in handling complex fraud investigations a plus. Knowledge of procurement practices helpful.
