Intellectual Property - Patent - Life Sciences General

Chief Legal Counsel The candidate will be reporting to the General Counsel of the Life Sciences Platform, with a dotted line reporting relationship to the President of Sciex. Will be gaining a solid understanding of the business, its goals, and challenges and identifying appropriate legal and compliance strategies to facilitate those goals and minimize those challenges. Negotiating, strategizing, documenting commercial transactions, contracts, and other legal arrangements. Developing appropriate approaches to litigation, arbitration, and dispute resolution; providing regular, clear communication on litigation issues and opportunities to the president and the leadership team as well as the Life Science Platform General Counsel’s office. Assisting the business and Danaher with mergers & acquisitions from due diligence to documentation depending on the situation and background. Assess the needs of the business from a legal and regulatory perspective and work with the president to deploy existing or new resources against those need. Educating business leadership on the appropriate use and “leverage†of in-house counsel. Selecting appropriate outside counsel and managing the output and costs. Lead the compliance program including risk assessment and appropriate countermeasures, Anti-Corruption education and monitoring, associate Standards of Conduct. Advising on IP protection in support of expansion into new geographies. Supporting the acquisition of new technologies, licenses, etc.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have law degree from a U.S. law school, preferably one recognized for graduating top lawyers. Extensive exposure to and success in a dynamic med-device or pharma business environment is essential. 15+ years of practice, background in IP is preferred. Understanding of Quality Management Systems in a regulated and non-regulated environments is essential. Should have 7-10 years of leadership experience. Major law firm experience, partnership preferred, or equivalent in-house experience, or combination of the 2+ years of experience is essential. Experience in-house is helpful; some experiences that suggest an ability to hit ground running in a complex, semi-matrixed organization is a must. Some international experience, foreign language capability is a plus. Must be an excellent lawyer, able to explain complex legal points to business leaders with varying degrees of sophistication about legal matters; able to take business leaders’ concerns and demands into account in how best to pursue legal strategies
