Staff Attorney The candidate will be responsible for conducting client legal services, and reports to the Senior Staff Attorney and the Supervising Attorney.Will provide direct legal services to clients of Housing Works, including intake, representation, advice, and referrals. Supervise legal interns. Participate in advocacy efforts and direct action to end the twin crises of homelessness and AIDS. Identify cases appropriate for potential impact litigation, and where called upon, assist in any and all phases of impact litigation. Prepare pleadings and argue cases. Where appropriate, work with and coordinate work with counsel. Complete all necessary paperwork, including Board Reports, timesheets, AIRS Sheets, and any other data-collecting requirements. Maintain timely and detailed case notes for all open cases. Other duties as assigned by Staff Attorney and the Supervising Attorney. Must have Juris Doctorate degree from accredited law school; admission to N.Y. Bar; and good standing. Experience or expertise in poverty law, including housing law, entitlements law, family law, etc., and/or public interest law is essential. Excellent time management skill is essential. Excellent advocacy skill is essential. Excellent research, writing, and interpersonal skill is essential. Literacy with computer is essential. Excellent communication and rapport with client is essential.
