Assistant County Attorney III The candidate will work in the Criminal Division who will perform legal and advisory services as prescribed by the County Attorney to accomplish effective representation of state, county and county personnel. Although initial assignment is in the Criminal Division, may be assigned to work in other Divisions as determined by the County Attorney. The Assistant County Attorney III is a senior level attorney position. Prepares cases for prosecution of criminal statutes; renders legal opinions; drafts and reviews pleadings, motions and other legal documents; confers with and provides legal advice to County departments and City law enforcement personnel; prepares briefs, opinions, pleadings and other legal papers; conducts necessary legal research; performs related work as required.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must be Graduate of an accredited law school; licensed to practice law in Minnesota. Should have 5 years experience as a practicing attorney; proficiency in building and maintaining interpersonal relationships in a professional setting and have had 5 years of felony prosecution, or comparable, experience. Expertise in legal research and writing, including the ability to persuasively analyze the specific facts of a case while applying statutes, rules and cases. Must have knowledge of: Criminal laws; the principles, methods and practices of legal research; the pleadings and practice of effective presentation of court cases; rules of court and rules of evidence. Should have ability to: Conduct research, organize facts and present evidence and other material in written or oral form. Must have skill in: Conducting legal research; analysis of data; determination of proper courses of action and presentation of facts and arguments.
