A law firm seeks an Associate or Patent Agent to join its Patent Prosecution & Litigation Practice Group, focusing on Electrical Engineering and Software. This position is based in Tysons Corner, VA, and offers the opportunity to work on a wide range of complex intellectual property matters, especially in the fields of computer science, electrical engineering, and related technologies.

Duties:

  • Handle patent prosecution and litigation in the areas of electrical engineering and software.
  • Draft patent applications, respond to office actions, and provide legal advice on patent strategy.
  • Work with clients on patent portfolio management, including the preparation of opinions and responses.
  • Conduct detailed patent research, analyze patent infringement, and prepare litigation strategies.
  • Collaborate with the team on various matters, offering expertise in areas such as networking, software, and wireless technologies like 3G/4G/5G.
  • Manage communications with the . Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 2-6 years of experience in patent prosecution, particularly in the fields of electrical engineering, software, or computer science.
  • Candidates must be members of the USPTO and have experience drafting patent applications and engaging in patent litigation.
  • Experience or knowledge in networking, wireless technologies, or chip design engineering is highly preferred.
  • Associate candidates must be licensed to practice law or eligible for licensure in the state where they will be based.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

Education:

  • A degree in electrical engineering, computer science, or a related field is required.

Certifications:

  • Must be a registered patent practitioner with the USPTO.
  • Bar licensure in the state of practice is preferred (California licensure is a plus).

Skills:

  • Ability to effectively manage a portfolio of patents and patent-related issues.
  • Expertise in patent law and patent litigation procedures.
  • Strong technical understanding of electrical engineering, computer science, and related technologies.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective client interaction.
  • Proficient in legal research, analysis, and strategy formulation.
