Information Technology Specialist (Customer Support), GS 07 The candidate will be responsible for providing Point of Care Customer Service, resolving customer related technical software and hardware problems in accordance with established policies and procedures of the specific VA facility assigned. Recommends new or revised operating procedures and controls to meet the operating requirements for system users. Participates with the Chief Information Officer (CIO) in managing the transition to modernized systems. Serves as technical and administrative manager for automated systems, including electronic data processing, word processing and telecommunications systems. Monitors system and device utilization and develops system configurations for both new and existing equipment. Performs system maintenance and repair activities, as well as software and hardware enhancements. Traveling is required.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate must have the following qualifications:
For GS-07: Should have 1+ year of graduate level education. Must have a grade-point average of "B" (a GPA of 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last two years of undergraduate study. A grade point average of "B+" (a GPA of 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all courses in your major field of study, or those courses in major completed in the last two years of undergraduate study. Rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university or major subdivision. Membership in a national honor society (other than freshman honor societies) recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies. Or Should have 1+ year of work experience that shows all the following competencies: Attention to Detail -thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - work with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Or 1+ full year of graduate level study, or possess a master's or higher degree, e.g., LL.B., J.D., LL.M., Ph.D., in a field that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
