Tribal Attorney-Prosecutor
The candidate will be attends Court, drafts court filings and performs research for Child Welfare cases. Attends Court, drafts court filings and performs research for Criminal cases. Attends Court, drafts court filings and performs research for Landlord/Tenant cases. Attends Court, drafts filings and performs research for Treaty Enforcement cases. Advises Sault Tribe Law Enforcement. Advises Anishnaabek Community and Family Services (ACFS). Advises DeMawating Development and Sault Tribe Housing Authority. Attends Court, drafts filings, perform research and enforces Indian Child Welfare Act. Facilitates multi-disciplinary team. Processes Gaming Waiver/Forgiveness applications and presents to the Board of Directors. Supervises and directs the activities of the Assistant Prosecutor. Travels for Court in the Tribe's seven county service area and for trainings. Maintains regular contact with tribal officials, Board of Directors and other Tribal organizations. Maintains regular contact with federal, state, local and tribal law enforcement prosecutors. Bachelor's Degree and Juris Doctorate required. Three years of experience in the practice of law preferred. : Must be admitted to practice law in the State of Michigan. Must have a valid driver's license and be insurable by the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Must comply with annual driver's license review and insurability standards with the Sault Tribe Insurance Department. Will be required to undergo and successfully pass a background check. Must maintain a good moral character standing. Will be required to complete and pass pre-employment drug testing. Must have in-depth knowledge of Indian law and jurisdiction. Must be able to formulate sound decisions and use tact and discretion. Must have in depth knowledge of Michigan, federal and tribal codes. Must be able to deal courteously and effectively with many different types of people. Must be able to handle multiple assignments simultaneously. Must be able to maintain tact and discretion. Must maintain confidentiality.
