ProfileAssociate General Counsel, Marketing and International Affairs The candidate will draft, review, negotiate contracts related to the commercial partnerships, including domestic and international sponsorships (and associated sponsor activations) and merchandise licensing. Will lead contract negotiations between team and the partner team (with respect to domestic agreements) and/or the IOC (with respect to TOP sponsorships). Liaise with LA 2028 Marketing Joint Venture on sponsorship agreements and role in supporting them. Draft, review, negotiate contracts related to media, including assisting in the negotiation of Olympic Games media agreements for the United States, as well as primary Legal responsibility for U.S. Olympic Team Trials, Paralympic Games and Pan American Games media in the United States. Work in business affairs capacity in joint efforts with the IOC and RHB to support a multi-platform Olympic Channel in the United States. Assist General Counsel and Marketing in negotiating other complex commercial agreements with IOC, IPC, LA 2028, and other OCOGs that are fundamental to the long term revenue streams as well as stewardship of the Olympic Brand in the United States (e.g., rights with respect to TOP and Games media revenues). Serve as a representative on Strategic Steering Committee regarding Olympic Games footage and Olympic-themed programming. Lead coordination with LA 2028 OCOG and LA 2028 Marketing Joint Venture on sponsorship and marketing legal matters. Assist staff in educating athletes, NGBs, agents, and commercial partners regarding IOC and IPC Games-time policies (e.g., Rules 40 and 50, IOC and IPC Social Media Guidelines). Partner with Marketing in efforts to assist in proactively promoting and strengthening the Olympic brand, including through marketing properties (e.g., U.S. Olympic Team Trials, 100 Days Out, Road to, Team USA Awards, etc.), creation and implementation of NGB brand extension policies, and social media (including participation in cross-divisional efforts to create and implement standardized data collection policies and procedures). Communicate and collaborate with, and support the General Counsel on other legal matters as assigned; coordinate across Legal personnel to ensure that efficient and effective cross-divisional legal decisions are implemented. Regular attendance at work is an essential job function.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Doctorate or better in Juris Doctor degree. Law degree is required. Should have 8+ years of experience: experience in sponsorship/marketing contracts and licensing, with experience in media/digital media law preferred. Proven experience in dealing with issues arising in connection with unique and challenging interplay of rights holder interests are needed. Prior experience representing amateur or professional sports organizations or sponsors of sports events or organizations are beneficial.
