Assistant City Attorney The candidate prepares or reviews City contracts, agenda items, and Public Information Act documents. Advises the Police Chief and other City departments that have a criminal enforcement component on all legal matters, including, criminal law, criminal procedure, policies and procedures, and Open Meetings Act. Prepares text for new ordinances or amendments to current ordinances upon request of City departments. Attends all Building Advisory and Appeal Board meetings. Researches, analyzes, and prepares legal opinions and training bulletins on criminal or civil law, criminal procedure, department policy, case law, and legislative updates as necessitated by law or as requested by the Police Chief or other Department Managers. Maintains current information on all pertinent federal, state and municipal laws and case rulings; monitors and advises on legislation that could impact the operations of the police department and the City. Represents the City in some litigation, such as nuisance abatement or civil defense. Provides legal counsel to elected and appointed officials, boards, commissions, committees, and City departments based on interpretation of federal, state, county, and city constitutions, charters, statutes, ordinances, resolutions, rules, regulations, court decisions, administrative law decisions, and other legal authority. Must have Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school. Should have 5+ years of practicing law with 3+ years of experience in municipal law and preference for specialization in one of the following: Texas Local Govt. Code Chapter 143 (civil service) preferred, police legal advisor, municipal contracts/procurement, municipal land use, municipal prosecution, municipal economic development, municipal labor/employment. Licensed with the State Bar of Texas is required. Deadline: June 19, 2018
