IRS Regulatory Specialist
The candidate will provide comprehensive support and administration for legal and regulatory processes (e.g. levies; liens; garnishments; safe box; and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations, related to tax reporting. Work to mitigate risk exposure and protect client confidentiality while ensuring associate and departmental compliance with BB&T Information Security standards. Perform all tasks on a timely basis in order to meet processing schedules and legal and regulatory timeframes (i.e. levies; liens; garnishments; safe box; and IRS Regulations, related to tax reporting. Effectively communicate with outside and internal legal counsel, court representatives, and local, state and federal government agency representatives. Develop and maintain a thorough working knowledge of all IRS Regulations, State and Federal laws, and Compliance issues governing applications of responsibility. Support safe box application. Maintain a high level of Client Service in communicating with and servicing external clients (e.g. outside legal counsel, courts, IRS) and branch associates. Make reasonable and sound decisions based on legal requirements, regulatory standards, and risk assessments. Maintain proficiency in systems and applications used in daily processing of all functions. Maintain documentary files as required by law or regulation. Adhere to clean desk and information security policies, protecting client confidentiality at all times. Identify and immediately report potential operational risk concerns.

Qualification and Experience

The candidate should have a High School diploma or equivalent education and related training. Two(2) years of experience in financial services industry. Strong analytical skills. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and use sound judgment in decision-making. Ability to analyze data and/or situations and make sound decisions. High degree of accuracy in detail work. Effective verbal and written communication skills with good penmanship. Effective interpersonal skills. Ability to work in an area governed by time sensitive functions and work extended hours in order to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory deadlines. Demonstrated proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Office software products. Ability to travel, occasionally overnight. Paralegal experience preferred. Bachelor’s degree or technical training with experience a plus.
