ProfileAssistant General Counsel – Antitrust and Competition Law The candidate will lead a team of experienced antitrust attorneys and will have primary responsibility for merger reviews and conduct investigations by regulatory agencies throughout the world. Responsibilities also include counseling the Company’s various business units on antitrust risk and engaging in thought leadership on policy and legal issues relevant to competition law. The attorney in this position will be responsible for the following: Preparing company’s defense to regulatory inquiries (both merger-related and conduct-based) worldwide, including investigating and marshalling facts and legal arguments, appearing before regulatory agencies and complying with discovery obligations. Functioning as primary trusted advisor and antitrust counselor to business-facing lawyers as well as senior executives on potential antitrust implications of business initiatives. Providing thought leadership to Microsoft executives on future directions of competition law, and occasional external engagement through written articles and speaking engagements on such issues. Leading a team of approximately five (5) attorneys and one (1) Program Manager. Working efficiently to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with a demanding case workload, while prioritizing workflow to adjust for fluctuations. Supervising outside counsel in connection with competition law advice pertaining to investigations (conduct and acquisition-related) and potential business initiatives. Engaging with company Government Affairs team on antitrust-related developments and changes to competition law policy worldwide. Occasional travel will be necessary, especially when meeting with regulators outside of the United States.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have J.D. from an ABA accredited law school, and outstanding academic credentials required. Must have 10+ years of experience practicing law with substantial experience in antitrust matters. Experience managing colleagues, such as outside counsel and/or fellow employees is needed. Should have Demonstrated ability to represent a sophisticated client creatively and effectively in complex matters. Must have outstanding analytical mindset with the ability to apply sound, principled, and consistent judgment in a fast-moving and challenging legal and business environment. Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
