Litigation Specialist The litigation specialist is accountable for actively managing the portfolio of accounts that have been recommended for referral to attorney including the actual assignment into the Litigation system; Actively manage each attorney firm by use of monthly reporting and metrics; Set expense targets and time lines for each case and communicate to all interested parties; Review and submit all attorney invoices for approval on a timely (monthly) basis; Submit write offs on a monthly basis to endure that all accounts in the assigned portfolio are written off, collected, or deemed collectable; Meet all business objectives set by the Litigation Manager; Maintain a constant focus on the teamâ€™s customers- the business units whose P & Lâ€™s directly influence; Serve as an escalation point for business unitsâ€™ and lesseesâ€™ issues and complaints; Complete full review of all loan documentation on assigned default accounts (such as promissory note, collateral, mortgage, security agreement, etc.) and ensure completeness of loan file (i.e. obtain missing documentation from appropriate Bank source). Promptly escalate any sensitive or substantive issues to BMO Transportation Finance Collections Leadership as appropriate. Team Support; Serve as back-up to other members of the litigation team to ensure appropriate team coverage and provide team support as needed. Work collaboratively with litigation team; Provide team support as requested to less experienced litigation specialist. Actively participate in projects as assigned, and ensure deadlines are met. Provide updates to management and follow-up as appropriate. As required, provide training and mentoring to entry-level litigation team members. Professional Development / Expertise: Participate in ongoing personal professional development. Keep current on financial services industry, new legislation and evolving case law as it impacts security realization/insolvency related issues, and disseminate to his/her team. Share expertise with others, providing coaching and advice to others within litigation team. Develop and maintain effective, productive relationships with legal and insolvency professionals and other consultants/advisors within the litigation community. Represent litigation US internally as required.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Bachelor of Science or equivalent with a background in Business, Finance or Paralegal. Should have 2 - 3 years Litigation Case Management. Demonstrate strong negotiation and escalation skills with the ability to identify relevant matter. Developing analytical skills and ability to make appropriate recommendations to management. Effective time management and prioritization skills. Developing relationship management skills. Must Maintain a confident, flexible and professional attitude in dealing with adversarial parties/situations. Excellent communication skills â€“ interpersonal, verbal, and written (including legal documents). Strong writing/proofreading skills for technical reporting requirement.
