Paralegal - Private Client The candidate prepares legal documents for multiple attorneys in the Private Client group and oversees trust and estate administration including probate court processes and procedures along with preparation of various tax returns related to estate administration/probate process. Performs substantive legal work and accounting related legal work under the direction and supervision of a lawyer and is responsible for specifically delegated client matters. Assists in preparing, retaining, and organizing legal documents, agreements and pleadings. Performs legal support work following detailed instructions pertaining to the administration of trusts and estates. Under the supervision of a lawyer, prepares accountings related to trust and estate administration and estate tax returns, gift tax returns and fiduciary income tax returns. Provides factual research, document analysis and organization, and drafts pleadings. Indexes trust and estate administration documentation and enters data into client files. Meets with clients as needed. Tracks billable time and enters it into the DTE system. Presents information effectively to lawyers and clients and responds to questions. Resolves routine legal questions relating to accounting issues under the direction of a lawyer.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have a four-year degree and/or 2 years of relevant accounting experience. Prior experience in a law firm, trust department, or accounting firm preferred. Must have familiarity with trust and estate accountings and principal and income accounting concepts. Familiarity with probate administration processes and procedures is required. Should have familiarity with duties and obligations of trustees and personal representatives. Ability and willingness to perform legal support work following detailed instructions pertaining to the administration of trusts and estates is essential. Proficiency with Word and Excel as well as accounting and tax preparation programs is a must. Should have ability to work independently to organize large amounts of data, both hardcopy and electronic, into an easily retrievable system. Ability to travel up to six times per month to various client locations is essential.
