Legal Secretary The candidate will perform legal secretarial duties for multiple attorneys and professional staff in Office. Typical duties include proficiently typing, editing, storing, retrieving, printing, processing, faxing and electronically sending correspondence, court forms, legal documents and pleadings (e.g., petitions, briefs, opinions, notices, motions) using various software such as Word, Microsoft Outlook, Adobe Acrobat, West Check and ProLaw. Adhere to court procedures ensuring documents are expertly prepared, proofread, copied and filed/served in accordance with legal requirements and deadlines; verify case/legal citations and quoted text; maintain an efficient system for filing correspondence and pleadings; transcribe complex machine dictation; and comply with State and Departmental regulations. Legal Secretaries regularly compose letters and memoranda; prepare subpoenas; schedule court reporters for depositions; process mail; maintain a calendar of document due dates and court appearances; set up and close legal cases; and maintain a professional and organized work area. Legal Secretaries also make travel arrangements and assist with overflow work as requested. Duties may include tasks that require driving, bending/stopping, reaching/twisting, manual dexterity (grasp/handle/keyboarding), prolonged standing or siting, frequent walking including pushing/pulling and or carrying/lifting up to 20 pounds.
