Legal Counsel
The candidate will help with legal strategy and coordinate litigation activities with outside counsel to protect and expand access to comprehensive sexual and reproductive health. Will give advise Senior Staff and other affiliate staff (as necessary) on legal matters relating to general business operations. Ensure legal and ethical compliance with local, state and federal laws. Research and advise on legal matters including corporate governance, contracts, real estate, healthcare, patient privacy laws, human resources, benefits, insurance, risk management, security, and proposed legislation, regulations, and public interest litigation that may affect PPGP patients. Draft, review, and assist in the maintenance of legal documents including contracts, leases, policies and procedures and other documents. Act as liaison with outside counsel on any claims and legal issues involving PPGP. May be required to represent the named affiliates in litigation and other legal proceedings. Develop and implement special projects as requested by the COO/Senior Counsel. Provide training to affiliate staff as needed. Coordinate with Compliance and HIPAA Privacy and Security Officer(s) as needed and as directed by the COO/Senior Counsel. Support risk and quality management by helping identify any mitigate risks. Maintain the highest level of professional and ethical standards and to act in compliance with both the letter and spirit of all applicable laws and regulations. Must be currently licensed to practice law in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, or Oklahoma. Eligible for admission or qualified to take the bar exam in all four states. 3-5 years of legal practice, preferably in health care, administrative or constitutional law. Strong research and writing skills required. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Responds effectively to the sensitive and/or confidential inquiries or complaints both verbally and in writing. Ability to write and deliver effective email communications. Excellent listening skills required. Demonstrates initiative to identify and analyze issues. Ability to propose solutions. Seeks guidance for complex challenges. Gains agreement and alignment before making changes. Completes thorough review of prior decisions before suggesting modifications.
