Intellectual Property Patent Paralegal Responsibilities: Lead for Patent Docketing - coordinates with Docketing team on workflow practices and efficiencies. Processes Notices of Allowance and manages payment of U.S. issue fees. Prepares and files PCT applications; coordinates with foreign associates on requirements for filing foreign applications (ensuring correct signatures, apostille, etc.). Coordinates payment of maintenance and annuity fees; creates letters including file assembly for payment of foreign annuities; assists finance with invoices and troubleshooting, as needed. Assists in project coordination of client termination proceedings and client intake. Prepares Information Disclosure Statements and Supplemental Information Disclosure Statements. Manages electronic filing submissions with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Understands and implements new legislation and regulations at USPTO. Research MPEP as needed. Drafts amendments and §112 rejections; reviews prosecution in foreign cases to ensure consistency. NOA, Due diligence, IDS, tracking prior art. Creates status reports for clients and point of contact for related client interface, and. Performs other project related work, as requested.

Qualification and Experience

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree preferred; 5+ years Patent experience preferred. Ability to work independently and to work effectively with a variety of clients and staff; proven ability to provide exceptional client service. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Attentive to detail, accurate with names and numbers. Ability to proofread and check typed material for grammatical, typographical, spelling, word usage and format errors; experience reviewing utility and design drawings a plus. Competency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook, and Docketing software. Strong organizational skills; ability to respond to multiple priorities and deadlines.

It is a very hectic place. The work is long and the stress high. The moving up part is very confusing and could use some work. The senior partners do not care at all about the lower level people and that gets confusing.

Pros : This is a large firm and has top level clients. They also only recruit from the best and brightest so you feel very much at home if you fit into that category. I did and I was very happy at the first when I was able to get into such high level cases and clients. The work is very intense and the pay is excellent.
Cons : It is hard to get ahead here. I was constantly competing for time with senior partners in order to get ahead. So was everyone else. The more you work does not always mean the higher up you will go. It is a very competitive culture.
