Job Overview
A well-established and growing law firm in San Mateo, California, specializing in Trusts, Estates, Probate, Trust Administration, and Litigation, is seeking an Estate Planning Associate. The firm offers a supportive work environment where personal growth is encouraged. The ideal candidate will have 0-5 years of experience in Trusts, Estates, Conservatorships, and preferably some exposure to Probate litigation. This role requires versatility and the ability to work across various areas of estate planning and administration.

Location

Duties

  • Design and implement estate plans, ranging from simple to complex, for clients.
  • Collaborate with clients and advisors to initiate and complete trust administrations and probate processes.
  • Manage conservatorship matters, with preference for candidates with relevant experience.
  • Handle probate and trust litigation matters, as needed.
  • Assist with issues related to Propositions 13 and 58, including entity formation and operation.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and external advisors.
  • Work efficiently in a team-oriented environment, contributing to the firm’s collaborative culture.

Requirements

  • Must be a member of the California Bar.
  • 0-5 years of experience in estate planning, trust administration, and probate.
  • Experience with Conservatorships and probate/trust litigation is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with estate tax planning and sophisticated trust structures is expected.
  • Ability to handle multiple cases and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build client relationships.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and go the extra mile when needed.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as required.

Education

  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications

  • Active membership in the California State Bar.

Skills

  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with TimeMatters, Gavel, or other case management software.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat.
  • Familiarity with Clio billing software.
  • Experience with HotDocs (for both Judicial Council Forms and estate planning document creation).
