Assistant General Counsel The candidate under direction, assists General Counsel with legal representation in various aspects of the law concerning. Ensures legal services provided support the goals and objectives of the District. Assists with personnel and student legal issues. Negotiates and drafts contracts and other legal documents. Represents the District in administrative and judicial proceedings, as needed. Seeks clarification and recommendations from governmental agencies and regulatory bodies, as needed. Assists with responses to investigations by the Texas Education Agency, U.S. Department of Education, and other administrative or regulatory agencies. Assists with monitoring compliance with competitive procurement and purchasing contract requirements. Assists in advising the Board of Trustees and attends all Board meetings. Assists with the preparation of documents and pleadings, as needed, with cases served on the District and its employees. Provides assistance and advice regarding District records, including requests under the Open Records Act/Texas Public Information Act. Assists in the formulation and drafting of policies and regulations, and reviews materials for publication. Maintains computerized and physical reports, records, and other required documents related to legal matters. Assists with professional development and training for staff and Board, as needed. Complies with policies established by local Board policy and state and federal law, including State Board of Education rules. Maintains a positive and effective working relationship with the General Counsel, Superintendent and Board of Trustees. Effectively communicates with colleagues. Other duties and assignments as required by the General Counsel.Doctor of Jurisprudence degree from an accredited university is essential. Licensed to practice law in the State of Texas and in good standing is essential. Experience in drafting and negotiating contracts and other legal documents is essential. Knowledge of the Open Records Act/Texas Public Information Act is essential. Must have 5+ years litigation or transactional experience. Experience representing a governmental entity and handling employment cases or school law matters is preferred.
