Paralegal Specialist, GS 07-11 Duties: The candidate will provide administrative and legal support services to attorneys and legal staff within the Trustee Program. Work may include: performing legal research, document review, citation analysis, and other case-related administrative duties. Support attorneys in the review of bankruptcy cases filed under title 11, U.S.C. Provide litigation support to Assistant U.S. Trustees, trial attorneys, and auditors in organizing and summarizing evidence and discovery, and preparing evidentiary exhibits to be presented in court, such as statistical charts, graphs, and summaries. Perform detailed legal research of public records. Examine case-related documents (e.g., financial statements, reports, inventories, invoices, and employment data) to determine relevance to the case and legal sufficiency. Provide technical assistance in processing legal documents and storing and retrieving case information. Conduct conferences with debtors, trustees, and their attorneys to collect information and discuss compliance with advise on Title 11 requirements. Monitor the progress of pending cases and initiate action to ensure that legal pleadings, forms, reports, correspondence, and other documents are prepared and submitted within established court deadlines. Track and monitor important case deadlines and inform staff about approaching deliverables. Perform a variety of administrative duties in support of attorneys and auditors within the regional offices, these duties may vary slightly from location to location but may generally include: regional oversight of Closing Documents for Chapter 7 cases, regional MTR case review, purchase card activities, and financial records system entries.

Qualification and Experience

Qualifications:
The candidate must have 6+ months of bankruptcy experience with a basic knowledge of bankruptcy regulations and procedures.

For GS-07: The candidate must have 1 year of experience (or time-in-grade) equivalent to the next lower grade in the federal service. Qualifying experience may include: applying a general knowledge of basic legal terms and concepts; providing routine administrative support to attorneys; researching case law to address simple legal questions; and/or reviewing and/or editing legal documents.
OR
May qualify for GS-07 if have completed one full year of graduate-level study in a related field, possess a Master's degree, or if you have earned a Bachelor's degree in a related field with superior academic achievement.
OR
May quality for GS-07 if have a combination of education and experience that meets the total requirement when combined.

For GS-09: The candidate must have 1+ year of specialized experience (or time-in-grade) equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Qualifying experience may include: Advising represented parties on legal concepts and precedents relevant to the case; providing case file management support to attorneys by tracking and monitoring deadlines and ensuring timelines are met; conducting legal research for cases related to bankruptcy proceedings, using electronic and hard-copy records and information systems; and/or reviewing and editing legal documents and other case records and files.
OR
May qualify for GS-9 if have a Master's (or equivalent) graduate degree; or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
OR
May quality for GS-09 if you have a combination of education and experience that meet the total requirement when combined.

For GS-11: The candidate must have 1+ year of specialized experience (or time-in-grade) equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Qualifying experience may include: Evaluating case information to determine relevancy and advising represented parties with expert legal knowledge; managing cases for attorneys, ensuring that case documents, petitions, and motions adhere to court requirements; conducting extensive analysis of public records, case documents, and court proceedings, and providing a detailed summary to justify a given position or conclusion; and/or completing legal documents, forms, and memorandae for submission in case proceedings, ensuring that all written materials adhere to accepted format and layout.
OR
May qualify for GS-11 if have a Master's (or equivalent) graduate degree; or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
OR
May quality for GS-11 if have a combination of education and experience that meet the total requirement when combined.

When qualifying based on education, superior academic achievement is defined as: Maintained a grade-point average of B (a GPA of 3.0 or higher) for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last two years of undergraduate study; OR Maintained a grade-point average B+ (a GPA of 3.5 or higher) for all coursed in major field of study, or those courses in major completed in the last two years of undergraduate study; OR Rank in the upper one-third of your class in college, university, or major subdivision; OR a member of a national honor group (other than freshman honor societies) recognized by the Association of College Honor Societies.
