Counsel - Empower Retirement The purpose of the candidate will be to provide legal expertise and advice to the corporation with respect to a broad range of matters relating to federal and state laws governing employer sponsored employee benefit plans and Individual Retirement Accounts. Primary Responsibilities: Responsible for analyzing complex legal issues and projects so that Empower s business goals are attained legally and with regulatory compliance. This includes working broadly across the organization to understand and analyze all the legal and regulatory aspects of the business issue, develop and gain approval for legal strategy to support, and implement the approved strategy. Research, interpret and advise upon ERISA, Department of Labor rules and regulations, Internal Revenue Code, IRS rulings and regulations and state law, including state trust company rules applicable to employee benefit plans and individual retirement accounts. Provide day to day guidance and advice to support various retirement plan administration issues. Identify issues and collaborate with other legal areas that impact the servicing of retirement plans including state insurance law, trust, securities compliance and corporate contracts.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate should have Law Degree. LLM in Taxation preferred. Current required license to practice law. Should have 2+ years of relevant legal experience. Some basic knowledge of the insurance & retirement planning industries. Some basic knowledge of ERISA and the Tax Code required. Experience with Government and Not-for profit plans a plus.
