Paralegal The candidate provides professional assistance to all attorneys and management within the Legal Department. Paraprofessional duties are performed under the general supervision of legal counsel to support internal and external customers of firm. Duties include the preparation of litigation documents, drafting/redlining contracts/agreements for attorney review, correspondence to internal and external contacts, legal research and general legal support for the legal counsel. Preparation and/or drafting of comments and revisions (using Track Changes – redline) relative to client submitted contracts/agreements for legal counsel review. Initial drafting of template agreements and non-template agreements for attorney review. Analysis, review, and compilation of document production required during litigation discovery process; summarizing deposition transcripts. Collects, organizes, tracks, and maintains form files and checklists on litigated matters. Performs appropriate legal research and submits summary findings outlining appropriate case law relative to State/Federal/Regulatory requirements as needed for attorney review using various research tools/programs (i.e. Lexis/Nexis). Updates, tracks, and monitors multiple Legal Department databases (Time Matters, PowerDocs, Contract Database, Legal Tracker) to ensure accurate record keeping, execution, and follow-up/closure of all matters. Reviews and analyzes all court documents received to determine appropriate action or responses required under supervision of attorney. Reviews and replies to various correspondences from internal and external contacts as necessary.
Qualification and Experience
The candidate must have Bachelor's degree with 3 years of work experience as a Paralegal in a corporate legal department or law firm, and a Paralegal certificate or Associate’s degree with 5 years of work experience as a Paralegal in a corporate legal department or law firm, and 2 year certificate. Strong analytical, interpersonal, organizational, written and oral communication skills, meeting planning, telephone skills, and office experience is required. Familiarity with healthcare terminology is a plus. Demonstrated high proficiency in automated office tools, specifically Microsoft: Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; Microsoft Project and Access is desired. Knowledge of basic contracting requirements and forms, litigation concepts and procedures, and general legal procedures is needed.
