Assistant Attorney General I-II Duties : Represents state agencies in state and federal district and appellate courts in litigation matters including judicial review of agency orders, environmental and other enforcement proceedings, and actions challenging agency rules and statutes, including drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and discovery documents; participates in trial and appellate advocacy. Represents the Office of the Attorney General and state agencies in state district and appellate courts in litigation related to state property, minerals, the environment, or utilities, as well as filing enforcement action lawsuits. Analyzes diverse factual and legal issues using independent judgment and action. Performs related work as assigned. Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions. Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule. Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information. Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity.
Qualification and Experience
Qualification : Assistant Attorney General I: Must have Graduation from an accredited law school with a J.D. Must be Licensed as an attorney by the State Bar of Texas and a member in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. Knowledge of laws and legal principles and practices relevant to environmental protection. Skill in legal research, writing, and analysis. Skill in reasoning and logic. Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines. Skill in effective oral and written communication. Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making. Ability to prepare legal documents, conduct research, and interpret and apply laws. Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback. Ability to work cooperatively with others in a professional office environment. Ability to provide excellent customer service. Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel. Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA. Assistant Attorney General II—All of the above qualifications for an Assistant Attorney General I, PLUS: One year of full time working as a licensed attorney Preferred Qualification : 1-2 years of civil litigation experience, including trial work. Utility, environmental, and/or natural resource law experience. Brief writing experience at district court and/or appellate levels. Knowledge of property law. Familiarity with regulatory oil and gas law. Judicial clerkship. Filing and/or defending lawsuits, including drafting and preparing necessary pleadings, motions, and orders experience.
