Deputy Inspector General
The candidate serves as the principal deputy of the Inspector General (IG), a Presidential appointee. The work of this position involves a close and confidential working relationship with the IG. Reports to the IG, and duties and responsibilities of this position are at the discretion of the IG. Assists the IG in keeping Congress, the Department, USAGM and other stakeholders fully and currently informed about problems and deficiencies relating to the administration of the programs and operations, and about the necessity for and process of corrective action. Participates in the short and long-range planning in support of the OIG Strategic Plan and in the development of performance metrics for the organization's core mission areas and its senior leaders. Assists the IG in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the OIG by providing executive leadership and direction to all OIG audit, inspection, evaluation, and investigation activities that support the core OIG mission. Serves as acting IG during the absence of the IG. Oversees the execution of OIG administrative functions to ensure compliance with applicable Federal regulations and policies pertaining to procurement, budget, human resources, and information technology management. Provides executive oversight to ensure that congressional liaison and reporting mandates are carried out fully and timely and that contacts with the media are appropriately responsive. Reviews and approves OIG work product and proposes both substantive and editorial comments as well as identifies trends and systemic issues across the organization. Supervises the preparation of the Semi-Annual Report to Congress, Congressional testimony, and Management Challenges. Represents the IG at meetings or in negotiations with other senior Department officials, Members of Congress, other Federal executive or legislative agencies, including the Government Accountability Office, and on interagency committees, including the Council of Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with key leadership, including State OIG personnel, senior Department officials, and other Offices of Inspectors General. A graduate J.D. from an accredited law school is required. Must be current member in good standing of a U.S. Bar, in any State, territory of the United States, or the District of Columbia (Applicant must provide proof of bar membership.)
