Disaster Assistance Attorney The candidate will provide individuals with representation in disaster-related legal matters such as FEMA appeals; clearing title to real estate and/or manufactured homes; insurance and other consumer issues; disaster-related employment, landlord-tenant, and/or foreclosure cases; and other legal matters arising from the impact of disasters on housing and the local economy. Participate in broader advocacy efforts seeking systemic improvement in the administration of assistance to disaster survivors. Conduct outreach and education activities. Help leverage pro bono resources. Must be licensed to practice law in Texas, able to waive into the Texas Bar, or willing to take the next available Bar exam. Exceptions currently include attorneys working for our migrant farmworker program or immigration team may be licensed in another state. Should preferably have demonstrated an interest in social justice, have strong academic credentials, and be functionally fluent in Spanish.
